It’s a warm summer night after a long week of work. My girlfriends and I are gossiping and chatting around the table outside while drinking cheap Pinot Grigio. One of my friends asks…
“ If you could use only one makeup product for the rest of your lives, what would it be? “

“MASCARA”
There is no group of people more qualified to speak on makeup than this bunch. They have gone through the makeup RINGER! These girls are real people who have gone through bad makeup phases, good makeup phases, last minute makeup in the car on the way to work phases, tried a new makeup technique then went to school and got made fun of phases, heavy makeup phases, natural makeup phases, birthday makeup phases, that shade doesn’t match your body phases, over tweezed eyebrows phases, too thick of eyeliner phases…. The list can go on forever! The point is, anyone who has worn makeup for at least a decade has made enough mistakes to have the credibility to suggest.
Anyways…
Mascara is the ultimate transformer - there is nothing quite like it. I know when I am bare faced, and I put on a layer of mascara, I immediately feel somewhat put together. I simply think mascara is the most important makeup product… so you better use a good one. Here are some of my favs coming from an avid makeup guru influencer follower who has tried them all.
Some girlies are gifted with eyelashes that can make any mascara work. I am NOT one of those people. It takes a certain type of mascara to make my eyelashes look long, full, dark, and separated without being clumpy.
L'Oréal Paris - Lash Paradise

This one is my current fav! It only takes two coats on each eye to have the perfect voluminous, lengthy and fanned eyelash look. It is just under $15 CAD on Amazon (click me: https://amzn.to/4fmmIgQ ) and Walmart. No this is not an ad - do you think L’Oreal knows who I am?! Anyways. Does anyone remember the days when mascara was like $5 - I miss those days. Regardless, this is an inexpensive price for mascara compared to what you’d find at Sephora. It is often said to be a DUPE for Two Faced - Better Than S*X mascara. I’ve tried both, and I prefer the Maybelline mascara. This drugstore find is the best you'll get. Trust me, there is no use in buying a $40 mascara from an expensive brand in Sephora when it will dry out in a few months anyways. This one works fine. Save the $25 and buy your friend some flowers.
Maybelline New York - Lash Sensational

This is another one of my favorite options because I find it separates the eyelashes SO well and gives the perfect fan effect. It is very buildable and something about it makes your lashes look smooth and natural. It is less voluminous than the L'Oréal option but this is where personal preference comes in. I find often lighter eyes prefer this option whereas darker eyes need a little more umph that the L'Oréal one provides. This one comes in at a whopping $12 on Amazon (https://amzn.to/4da2lBG) and Walmart so less expensive than L'Oréal.
Here’s a chart to help
L'Oréal Paris - Lash Paradise | Maybelline New York - Lash Sensational | |
Price | $15 | $12 |
Volume | More | Less |
Length | More | Less |
Natural | Less | More |
Ease of use | Less | More |
This chart is not to compare that one is universally better than the other. They are both my favs, but one is better in some instances than the other. It is personal preference and what you think works best for you. No one needs mascara to be pretty.
Well my Sippers, I hope this helped you pick the most important tool in your make up kit.
